“Before Ceremony I was driving around the bay area a lot, visiting different cities and towns: skating as much as possible. One day me and some friends from Walnut Creek were in Piedmont and some dude was harassing us while we were skating this spot near Piedmont’s central area. He had a long board and he was skating by every few minutes yelling shit at us, calling us ‘fags’ or whatever. This guy was probably twice my age and big, big muscles, high school quarterback type. He had his little brother with him, and finally after two instances of him yelling at us, we yelled back and he came over to repeat what he was saying, only two feet away. My friend Peter threw a large fountain soda in his face and punched him just below his left eye lid, and I will never forget seeing his face immediately after the punch - a tiny slit start to pour blood. The dude tackled Peter and I came up behind the guy and booted his head, which caused him to fall to the side: calling for help to his little brother. After the boot, I threw a glass bottle at his head, but it didn’t break, it just bounced off and he ran away. Then I wrote Throwing Bricks.”

The past weekend I went to Santa Cruz with my home grrl, Ely. On our last day we planned to go up to Oakland. We ended up at some little sanwhich/coffee shop where we enjoyed our veggie paninis and chit chatted before the 6 hour drive back home. The barista noticed the Punch shirt and asked if we were going. Had to say "we're not from here and we are going back home". And we were off with a free cup of organic peruvian coffee from the really awesome sandwhich barista dude. I hope to see you again.

SOPA and PIPA cripple the free and open internet. They put the onus on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the blocking of entire sites, even if the links are not to infringing material. Small sites will not have the sufficient resources to mount a legal challenge. Without opposition, large media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for small competing foreign sites, even if big media are wrong. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won't show up in major search engines.
In a post SOPA/PIPA world, Wikipedia --and many other useful informational sites-- cannot survive in a world where politicians regulate the Internet based on the influence of big money in Washington. It represents a framework for future restrictions and suppression. Congress says it's trying to protect the rights of copyright owners, but the "cure" that SOPA and PIPA represent is much more destructive than the disease they are trying to fix."

Verse announces reformation

Two years after breaking up, Providence, Rhode Island hardcore band Verse has reformed and will be playing shows and recording a new album in 2012.

Verse vocalist Sean Murphy comments: “I think it just really came down to us missing playing music and the chemistry we shared in our creative process. Things just got a little crazy in our lives at home, with being on tour all the time, having all this weight to carry and people to keep happy. It really ended up burning us out. We needed some time to step away and focus on having some sort of stability for a while.”

The band went on to take a two-year-long hiatus, during which members Eric Lepine, Zak Drummond, Chris Berg, and Shawn Cost, along with Murphy, started talking again, and “…it just clicked and made sense. I know I’m very happy to sit in a room again knowing that we are fine with each other and the way we are as individuals. Verse was and is once again a very important part of our lives. It’s without a doubt one of the most creative and challenging things we’ve done in our lives,” says Murphy.

Verse’s first show back will take place on February 11st at AS220 in Providence, along with Defeater and Soul Control. In addition to an appearance at Belgian music festival Groezrock in April 2012, the band also intends to tour the West Coast and Europe in 2012.

Meanwhile, Verse hopes record a new full-length next year as well. According to Murphy, “We just want to do things on our own terms, not in a pretentious way but in a healthy way so that we don’t hit a wall like last time. We’re back to writing and having fun. Our new material is definitely still ‘Verse.’ We’ve been lucky not to get stuck in some type of predetermined template for hardcore punk or even music in general. We apply that to the creative process, especially with the new stuff.”

Victor’s lawyer ran through the retainer, and now needs another retainer in order to continue working on the case. Their legal funds account only has a sad $900 in it which will be gone very fast considering their lawyers charge $250 an hour.

Victor and Kellie have pleaded “not guilty” but the chances of all charges being dropped is slim to none. If convicted, the ideal situation would be that their plea agreement would consist of two of the four charges being dropped. If this is indeed what happens on January 24th, then they will be sentenced to approximately 12-18 months in prison. The longer their lawyers can work on the case the more likely their sentencing time will be drastically reduced (i.e. some of the charges will be dropped). Sitting in prison for 1 year versus 6 years can make quite the difference.

There is often a direct relationship between money raised and length of sentence, and so donating money is essentially “purchasing their freedom.”

Last week, Joe “Hardcore” Mckay was arrested in Philadelphia while driving in his car on the way to work on his friend's house. He was unaware that his passenger was carrying illegal drugs and despite the fact that both he and the passenger admitted that he was unaware of what was in the car at the time, he was charged with a felony possession charge. His lawyer is confident that the case will not stand in court, yet as we all know, good lawyers cost money. Outside of the shows that Joe books, he is a family man with 3 kids and child support to pay. His job is seasonal and with all the recent rain, has been in and out of work over the past 2 months. Needless to say, this is a terrible time for him and his loved ones at home to have to stress over the pending charges and scrape together money for a lawyer.

Joe is someone I consider to be one of my closest and best friends so when I heard about what happened I wanted to help out anyway I could. The thing that made the most sense to me was to do a show. He did everything he could to convince me that we could think of other alternatives but after a lot of arguing I got my way and was left with less than 3 weeks to put something together. With the help of Robby Redcheeks and Dave Sausage, the lineup that we created is:

These bands were all generous enough to agree to play when I asked and I could not be more thankful. Floorpunch and The Wrongside arent exactly active, Cold World flew Dan in from England, Face Reality is making the drive from Detroit, and Agitator is set to open it all up. It proves how much people care about Joe and what he has done for Philly/hardcore kids in general over the last couple of years. Anyone that has been to a show here has seen him/probably ended up in a conversation with him and should know how much hardcore has meant to him and how much he puts into making everything the best it can be. Now when he's in need, it's time to give some back.
I wanna say thank you to Linas Garsys for doing an unreal job on the prints that Robby is going to screen and a sincere thanks to bands for playing and labels that are contributing things to be raffled off at the show-deathwish, backtoback,harvcore, b9, triple b, youngblood and react! There will also be assorted other things for sale at the show, shirts, prints, posters,etc. This will be something that is truly special to be a part of and I couldn't be more happy to see the hardcore community show their support and be able to see an incredible show at the same time. Also, thanks to LIAM and everyone at broad street for letting us have the event at their venue for 100 percent free just because they wanted to help as much as possible/not take any money in return for their kindness

Well I think i motivated myself to make a (photo zine) it'll just be the photos I've taken and developed on my film camera since it is a physical thing I have. Tampering with raw files is a nuisance. At that, since no one has bought a zine from me I might just be as generous as always and give it out for free. All you have to do is like this post so I can have an understanding of how many to make. I'm just thinking 20.
Also I'll be mailing it. (further information once i'm done)
So i'll let you know when is it complete (if I ever get to complete because i'm so darn busy.)

overall they will be photos from sound and fury and a few from TIH. (sound and fury mostly)

Badmouth played their goodbye show last night. I’ve seen this band countless times and every show was always worth the drives out of Orange County. From that ghastly freezing-ass backyard show,The Hickey, The Blvd, Pharaoh’s Den, to Sound and Fury 09, to last night’s show and everything in be-fucking-tween that I can’t remember right now. You guys TRULY represented the DIY hardcore ethics that everyone only talks about but doesn’t practice. I never felt out of place at your shows and I never felt like I couldn’t have fun for any reason at all.
RIP OG 5626 era.
You rule. Thanks for the kind words, the support, the friendship, the hangouts, the smokin’. Thanks for the whole 9!
